Noah does n't remember his eyes clos ing. He does n't remember his head hitt ing his desk either. But he does remember wak ing up to his classmates laugh ing — and an angry look from his teacher. Like all tee nagers, he n eeds 8 to 10 hours of sleep each ni ght. But in fact, he usually gets five or six.

Some schools are worried about stude nts like Noah. So they're making it easier for stude nts to nap (打盹) at school. I n New Mexico, several high schools have added nap rooms that look like tiny spaceships. At these schools, kids can ask to leave class and rest for 20 minu tes.

Doctors agree that sleep is importa nt for your health. It helps your body grow and keeps you feeli ng happy and calm. But gett ing eno ugh sleep can seem impossible. School starts early. Activities and homework keep you up late. With such a busy schedule (时间表),how can you fit in nine hours of rest?

That's where n app ing duri ng the day comes in. Naps can't take the place of a good ni ght's sleep— but they sure can help. Experts say that even 20 minu tes of sleep can make you less likely to worry about a test or get mad at a friend. Research also shows that n app ing can help people learn. After a nap, your brain is clearer and your memory works better too.

Just ask Vera, 15. She's a stude nt at Las Cruces High School in New Mexico. Like Noah, she has falle n asleep in class. But her teachers don't get angry. In stead, they send Vera to use the school's nap room. After a 20-minute rest, she feels calm and focused. "It renews me for the rest of the day." Vera says.

Still, there are people who think naps at school are a terrible idea. Some teachers worry that stude nts will miss too much class. And what if kids start using nap time to get out of tests? Many pare nts are worried too. They say n app ing at school does n't prepare you for the real world. After all, most adults can't nap on the job.

    Could they be right?

Why did Noah make his teacher an gry?

    A. He fell asleep in class. B. He was late for school.

    C. He forgot to do his homework. D. He made fun of his classmates in class.

What does Paragraph 4 mainly expla in?

The importa nee of a good ni ght's sleep

When n app ing is n eeded.

The adva ntages of n aps.

How does Las Cruces High School deal with sleepy stude nts in class?

    A. By orderi ng them to go back home immediately.

By requiri ng them to get eno ugh sleep at ni ght. 第12页
