Nowadays, as many countries speed up their economic development, conventional energy sources are at the verge of exhaustion. Against this background, there has emerged a new development where some states are encouraging their people to harness wind and solar power. In my view, this is a desirable trend, which is more promising than that of further exploitation of fossil fuels.
First and foremost, non-conventional sources of energy are usually renewable, whereas their conventional counterparts tend to be non-regenerative and will be exhausted sooner or later. What is meant by this is that there will no longer be any panic that the new energy may be short of supply or be used up someday when the technology intended for its harness becomes mature and established.
Furthermore, alternative energy sources are much cleaner than fossil fuels such as oil and coal, and thus less detrimental to the environment. In other words, unlike conventional sources of energy, the new ones emit little carbon dioxides that may pollute the air, result in greenhouse effect or bring about any environmental damage.
Finally yet importantly, exploitation of wind or solar power may serve as a catalyst to technological advancement since it entails innovation and creativity in related domains of activity. In fact, experts specialized in harnessing wind and solar power are still being caught in a bottleneck, trying to figure out an inexpensive and feasible way of making use of these powerful natural forces. They surely will push technology a big step further once they solve the puzzle.
Considering all these benefits of exploiting alternative energy sources, all countries should encourage their use on a large scale so that one day they may replace fossil fuels. (280 words)
