Multiple choice questions
1.I was always afraid of something _____ out at me from behind the door.
A. leaping B. running C. walking
leap :jump ;move quickly
Eg:My heart leapt for joy at the news.
Look before you leap.
故选A。

2.This _______ respectable lady turned out to be a murderer who had, in her youth, poisoned every one of her three husbands.
A.superficial B. surface C. seemingly
superficial adj. apparent when looked at quickly or carelessly, but perhaps not real
surface n/ adj.
seemingly adv.
不过A、B都做adj.

3.The baby ______ to the music in a funny way.
A.changed B. swayed C. shook
sway: move or lean slowly from side to side; change the opinions
shake(shook shaken): move quickly form side to side; disturb the calmness of sb.

4.The Senator’s scandalous affair with the actress ______ not only his reputation but also his political prospects.
A. raided B. ruined C. stopped
raid: sudden surprised attack
ruin: damage or destruction
ruin one’s reputation 毁…名誉
答案为B

5.She was so scared by the strange sound from the cave that her blood _____ for a moment.
A. ran cold B. frozen C. stood on end
make sb.’s blood run cold: fill sb with fear and horror
Eg: The sight of the dead body made his blood run cold.
freeze one’s blood /make one’s blood freeze
one's hair stands on end :某人感到毛骨悚然的
make/set one's hair stand on end:
选A

Translate the following sentences into English.

1.She took the role of the doctor in the play.
2.Much to our displeasure she forgot our promise.
3.He was frightened at the idea of that dreadful experience.

She acted/played as a role of a doctor in this play/show/drama.
1.she was cast in the role of a doctor in the play.(cast

2.She took a role with doctor in this drama. (a role 后面跟的是介词of…… a role with /a role as 都不对)

What made us very unhappy/dismay is that she has forgotten our oath /vow
To our unhappiness, she had forgotten our promise/oath/pledges/parole /asseveration. .
It's unpleasant/ uncomfortable for us that she forget our pledge.

she would be scared at the idea of the horrible experience
On thinking of the terrible experience,he felt afraid.
His hair stands on end when he thinks about the terrific experience.
he will be scared at the thought of that terrible experience.
He was afraid when that terrible experience occur to him.(occur to sb
